Clinging to the Security of the Fortified Food Label Could Harm Your Kids

I have done it myself over the years, given in to a breakfast cereal that contains way to much sugar by consoling myself that at the very least it is fortified with added vitamins and minerals. Caught in the cross hairs on a Saturday morning in the cereal aisle of your local store, with three small kids in tow, it is a rationalization that both your children and the food companies want you to make.

Enlightening New research is alerting us to the fact that fortified vitamins and minerals may now be damaging our children’s health.

It is important to remember that profit driven food companies are only including low grade, isolated, synthetic vitamins and minerals in order to boost sales and not because they care about the health of your child. Synthetic nutrients are hard for the body to digest and assimilate, may not be able to help the body without other co-factors present in a whole food and may build up to toxic levels.

The nutrition found in whole foods however arrives for the body in highly complex structures that combine a variety of enzymes, coenzymes, antioxidants, trace elements, activators and many other unknown or undiscovered factors all working together synergistically, to enable this vitamin complex to do its job in your body.

The whole really is greater than the sum of the highly marketed parts and there really is no reason to take on the inflammatory fear of shrill headlines accusing us of poisoning our children!

Remember, simple oatmeal or a Natural Granola will contain all the B vitamin complex nutrition that your child will need today and a side of fruit, especially nutrient dense fruit such as berries rounds out the nutrition with vitamins A, C, coupled with potassium, calcium and zinc. Adding a full fat, live yoghurt will boost nutrition further and you can always offer cheese on wholegrain toast, eggs on toast or in a wrap, a smoothie or a healthy muffin.

Keep it simple parents; just offer your kids whole foods!
