This easy green smoothie was born out of a trip to the store here in Calgary where happily, I found an abundance of super sweet, cheap, organic strawberries and great Hotchkiss Farm local kale. My first thought was salad; and I am working away on a recipe today, but it seemed natural to throw these fantastic fresh foods into the blender this morning with some ground flax, the superfood spirulina and coconut oil to whizz up my lifeline of gorgeous nutrition for the day.
I discuss my love for spirulina and why it is so good for our bodies in my recipe for green Goddess Smoothie here http://www.louiseinnes.com/recipes/green-goddess-smoothie/ but it is the perfect complement to the vitamin C and anti-oxidant rich strawberries and the vitamin A, C and K rich kale. I also LOVE the flavours of strawberry and kale together. Grassy and green but with a sweetness and unmistakable tang of vitamin C provided by ripe strawberry. If you need more sweetness in this smoothie you could add maple syrup or honey to taste.
So I humbly offer this deliciousness as another option to kick those refined carbs and quick coffee shop snacks to the kerb. Make it, take it with you and you will be beautifully fuelled to have a better day.
