A Nutrient Dense Party Dip Perfect for Christmas

I just adore this dip at Christmas! Unlike many Christmas treats (hello eggnog!) this dip actually supports your very best health.

Rich and exotic to taste with a combination of mellow Middle eastern spices, tangy pomegranate molasses and sweet red peppers, Muhammara  compliments the season in a densely nutritional way and is my go to party dip for a pot luck.

Whole raw walnuts form the base for this dip and they are packed with cardiovascular friendly vitamin E and other phytonutrients. The positive effects of consuming walnuts has in fact been very widely studied with walnuts being shown to decrease unhealthy low density lipoprotein and increase omega 3 fatty acids in the blood. They decrease the risk pf blood clotting and of inflammation in our vasculature and improve the vasomotor tone of the endothelial cells that line our circulatory system.

A small snack of a handful of raw walnuts each day with a couple of dark chocolate squares or some dried cranberries are highly supportive of the cardiovascular system, as is switching from peanut butter to a natural almond butter or adding raw walnuts to your breakfast cereal or granola recipe.

Remember that anything beneficial to the cardiovascular system will also support your brain health….true for foods, exercise and vitamin L (Love) too!

Love me my walnuts!

IMG_4149Help! I am just getting nutrition nerdy all over you, and we are now so close to Christmas that you will just want to get your hands on the recipe, so I will get back to the dip!

Ground cumin and chilli flakes warm this dip up but it is the secret ingredients of pomegranate molasses and a drained jar of roasted red peppers that provide the sweet zing.

I used to drive to a Lebanese Grocery Store to buy pomegranate molasses but in the last 2-3 years I have been seeing it everywhere, especially the Clic brand. Most good specialty grocery stores should stock it and I would check the ethic foods aisle of your big box store too.

Easy to make, you just place all of the ingredients into a blender and you have the most rich, sweet, garlicky and delicious dip, that actually supports your vibrant health, in 10 minutes flat.
